gypsy_purple - January 28th, 2004 at 09:34 PM

My husband and I have just bought a 66 beetle which we are restoring. It is our first attempt at this and we can't wait to get it on the road.
We are having trouble getting the door rubbers completly removed. is there an easy way of getting the doors completly stripped. and ready for painting. we have the panels removed. do the door skins come apart? any help would be most welcome....:sandrine

Hiya, ive got a 67 there almost the same, the door rubbers should just pull out unless there glued in,pull harder, the door skins dont come off unless your REALLY keen.Check out the doors REAL GOOD before painting,ie open the door fully and lift if theres any play your probably up for new door pins(there readily available),its getting the old ones out thats a challenge. And if you get new pins get the one on the right with the thread for the RHS mirror(TIP).;)

I use a screw driver to remove the door rubbers ... it just takes time and effort.
