Engine cuts out whilst driving
Kafer Lover - January 31st, 2004 at 07:48 PM

Anyone got any thoughts why the engine may just cut out whilst driving along?
It has happened 3 or 4 times over the last couple of weeks, while just driving along normally at 60km/hr.
It starts up again straight away with a turn of the ignition.
I'm going to give it a bit of a service tomorrow, but any thoughts would be appreciated.

First guess is electrical

Now the hard part - where :jesus

I am guessing a wire is shorting or open circuiting somewhere.

Key switch
coil
condenser

Somewhere in the control circuit.
ie not lights etc.

Try idling the car and jiggle all wires in the key switch, ignition area. The positive to the coil. The negative of the coil to the dizzy

The fuel exit nipple on the bottom of your fuel tank is almost blocked solid. Take it off and you will see what I mean. It happens to all VW's sooner or later.
