Hi all,
I've been thinking about putting an audio system in my L bug for awhile now...
However, I've got a few questions:
The best place for speakers? (Sound quality and and wiring)
Where should the antena sit?
I'm not looking for a fancy system, just wanna listen to the radio and CDs...
Was thinking of getting it done at Strathfield Car Radios, got a few gift vouchers for it :P
Any tips and suggestions?
Thanks!
Ron
I've found that making an MDF (bout 25mm thick?) parcel shelf behind the rear seats is a good idea. Through trial and error, make a template from
a piece of thick cardboard. The shelf should be high enough for clearence of the magnet of the speakers. 6X9's work well in this case, you can
mount them sideways or longways, it don't really matter. After that, you can carpet the MDF very easily. The depth of the speakers behind the
rear seat will enhance the bass of the speakers whilst leaving room to put crap in the back coz the bug's storage space is so dam small! As for
the front speakers, I'd suggest making MDF boxes for em and placing them in the footwells somewhere, unless you want big holes in the door trim.
The door trim isn't a great place for mounting anyways because the material is quite flimsy and will probably splinter and shatter when you try
to drill and jigsaw it...
hope this helps
