motor blowing blacky blue smoke
BJ - February 13th, 2004 at 12:01 PM

Having trouble with a 1600 tp with a holley bugspray. Has a twin system cannon style exhaust on it. The right hand side is blowing a blacky blue smoke and adjusting the mixtrues does nothing. Also seems to miss on this side with the occansional backfire. Just wondering if the problem may be tappets? checked for vacuum leak but couldn't fine one. Just wondering if anyone has had the problem or any ideas on repairs?:cry

carby had been on for a while but only started to get going. Old mate I brought it off of reckons carby was rebuild. I don't think so but adjusting the mixture scre a the front does nothing ( very mininal ) so next answer?

Adjusting the mixture screw only affects idle & very light throttle openings try screwing the screw right in & see if it stalls, it should, if not it is probably flooding, thatis one step anyway, incorrect timing will also cause a rich mixture because the fuel is not burnt properly, as will the float level being too high, you certainly should check you valve clearences & compression as well
