howdy all,
my girlfriend has a 1967 and I'm a holden boy by nature. but I'm starting to get an addiction to the beetle and can see why some people love
them.
Her lock on the engine bay bonnet (boot for us holden boys) has broken and doesn't work at all, ie, you don't need a key to open it.
is there any way to replace the entire handle, or take the handle off so I can take it down to the lock smiths and get the lock barrel repaired ?
thanks in advance.
Its simple to take the engine lid handle assy off. from memory its one or two nuts to unscrew... I don't think I ever had one that could be
locked, or else I never locked it or didn't have a key.... the late model ones [1968 & after] had a push button lock... and most of those
were unlockable... make sure she carries a fire extinguisher in the beetle. The most common place to bolt them is in front of the gearlever. Also You
could just put an alarm button under the engine lid lip so that an alarm sounds if the lid is lifted....
That would be simple job as the battery isn't too far away.....
