I have a late '62 build ('63 model) Karmann Ghia with a VDO mechanical fuel gauge. I am stripping the car down for a respray, and want to remove the tank. Does anyone have any idea how to remove the sender unit from the tank, or at least the cable from the sender so I can remove the fuel gauge.

It appears to have a cover, but I am reluctant to prise that up too much until I know more of what I am doing. They weren't made for long so I'll have Buckleys of finding another if I bust it.

The manuals I have don't have much info, even the Bentley.
