Help just went to do valve adjustmenton brand new stock 1600 no probs on cylinder 1 & 2 but when i went to d0 3 & 4 as i took off valve cover about 2 litres of oil fell out of the rocker cover, what the ? This is a brand new engine. The other day i noticed that oil was low but could not see any leaks any where and could not see any evidence of burning so i topped up oil and kept eye on temp and engine (no smoke )and oil level styad fine . Help i dont know what happened:cry

Did you have the car parked on a level surface ???

The oil drains to the sump through the 4 pushrod tubes.

Um i think you just solved my prob left wheel in a gutter creating a list of about 5- 10 degrees. I have checked the oil and ran the engine and all seems fine i will top up oil and take for test. Would such a situation cause this , i think probably so. Am going to do oil change as i think this is probably the prob. How many litres in a standard sump? thanks for your help:kiss

Yes,
its about 2.5 litres.
I don't know whether 5-10 degrees would do it.... Maybe it was more... normally, on level ground the oil flows back into the sump...
but 2 litres sounds a lot... maybe 1/4 of a litre...
If the bottom of Your tappet cover gasket protrudes inwards, the gasket could hold some of the oil in the cover..... If the engine was overfull of oil the oil may have flowed thru the push rod tubes and into the tappet cover... maybe 15-20 degrees...

You have to have a level surface for checking the oil level. THIS IS A MUST. Also the car has to sit for a least 5 to 10 minutes to allow the oil to return to the sump.

Do not put more than 2.5 litres into the engine otherwise you will cause a heap of otehr problems.

If its overfull drain it out and do the oil again before you damage your engine.

yeah it was quite steep and maybe 2 ltrs was an exageration and the oil might have been overfull. Am i to assume that oil level should always be checked on level ground this would seem to be common sense something i some times wonder if i am low on.:cussing
