Howdy People
I just put my type 4 engine back together again and the hydraulic lifters are rattling a treat - ie they won't pump up, anyone got some hints on achieving this, and can anyone tell the correct adjustment settings
Cheers

If its a fresh rebuild and you didn't bleed the lifters it will take a while for them to settle down. 30 miniutes +

I think for memory, you bottom out the adjusting screw on the valve then turn it in 2 more turns.

Paul

i was reading on Shoptalk and your soul brother posted (ie EXACT same question - well nearly)

http://shoptalkforums.com/bbs/NonCGI/Forum14/HTML/000898.html

a good answer was to read Boston Bobs set up procedure.

http://www.bostonengine.com/articles/hydraulicll.htm

By the way my hydro T4 was fired up yesterday and yes they (V Force) had too stuff around with the lifters setting them a few times.

I had this problem on my Beetle when it had CB hydraulic tappets. Most days on starting the tappets would stop clattering inside 5 seconds. But if I didn't drive the car for a week, they would clatter for 10 minutes or more until they pumped up again. My brother's Syncro Kombi used to do the same thing, and so do new Mexican Beetles with hydraulic tappets.

You can minimise the problem, and speed up the priming, by using a thinner viscosity oil. I used to use 10w-30 in my Beetle and noticed much improved priming.

If you have fitted a NEW cam n followers I think you will have to run the engine in order to BED / RUN the new cam n followers in, so as they face hard quicker

Otherwise you will find that they will wear out very quickly:cry
