Hey all first ever post here grate site by the way. Ok i own let me rephrase that my dad owns and i drive a 1962 bug with a 1600cc in it. It just keeps snapping Clutch cables at least every 6 months the thing is snapping them. Any idea's as to why anything i can do to stop this from happening. has anyone else had this feedback. Im not very technically minded but dad tells me there is a tube or something that goes around the cable to protect it, that has been replaced every time we change the cable so he doesnt think that is the problem. Cheers
Does the cable keep snapping in the same place? If it does then I'd say that the clutch tube is fraying the cable. That need to be looked at.
:alien
If it's breaking at a different place each time then I got no idea.
Welcome, you'll love it here, and learn heaps too. There are some really knowledgable people here.
hmmmm..... bummer of a welcome!
Anyway - Welcome!
now - where is the cable breaking???
The tube your dad is talking about is the Bowden tube. There needs to be about an 1" bend in it for it to work.
You havent pulled it straight in changing it have you???
There are also different brackets that hold it to the box. You could be angleing it in the wrong direction and wearing the cable??
Where abouts are you???
Barry
thanks for the quick reply. ive had it for about two years and its snapped 3 or 4 times. twice at the pedals once at the other end like the clutch arm think its called and the other was in the middle. I have no idea weather the tube is getting bent but ill be replaceing it soon so ill let dad know about that thanks so much for the insight
sorry barry didnt tell you were im located! were at hornsby with a bit of luck you will all see me crusin around in my black bug in about 8 weeks going for my p'z on may 3rd my b day
Don't forget to grease the new cable when you put it in, otherwise you're just bending the cable and metal fatigue takes its course..........
