My 62 bus has had a problem with the indicators since the day I bought it. They flash very quickly constantly. All the bulbs are good and flash very
brightly. It's going so fast that I can't hear the relay clicking and the indicator warning light in the speedo doesn't flash (the bulb works, I
tested it).
I have tried everything. I have changed the relay many times and can't get the indicators to work at all except with the relay that's in there.
I have read every book I have and none describe this problem. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.
Ross.
'62 bus, that's a 6V system, yes?
It was 6 volt til recently. I had the same problem when it was six volt and have the same problem again with the 12 volt system. I bought a hella 12volt VW relay and tried it, no indicators at all.
we have a similar problem in the beetle, I made it flash better by reversing the polarity thru the relay.
although the pilot in the dash still doesnt work, possibly wrong relay, as it is funny in thet the pilot needs to be earthed to work rather than
powered like most other cars. :alien
I think you should check the wattage (and voltage while you're at it!) of all of your indicator bulbs, which should be consistent with the flasher
unit.
It's 2 minutes work, but something sounds imbalanced in your setup.
hth
something isn't rite, could it be you have a small earth leakage? therefore lowering the current (like when a bulb blows) and making it flash faster?
Thanks guys, I bought ANOTHER relay from a local auto electrician, for some reason they work fine now. I don't know why, but I don't really care.
Maybe all the relays I tried before were stuffed, who knows. Main thing is, it's sorted.
Thanks.
Ross.
