Can any one tell me what the different sizes of type 3 rear torison bars are? eg was a heavier one used in the wagon? also which ones fit the beetle
irs?
Just having problems with the rear end lifting inside wheels out of corners on the track and loosing the ability to put power down.
LSD is the answer - few bucks though. Cant help with the T3 bits.
I had a 2180 with an open diff, now a 2110 with an LSD, the difference out of corners is unreal, especially in gravel and loose stuff.
What about the poor mans posi, shim up the side gears tight in the diff ???
Would love lsd, mabye next year when I have a bit more money :thumb
But I can get sets of T3 bars easy and get them in the car this weekend before the next meet. The LSD will go in when I get the gb rebuilt.
(how much does a LSD weigh? Got a friend going to the US soon for holidays, is it lite enough to go in a suit case? What LSD do you have and where did
u get it?) was thinking of locking the diff, but its a daily driver to, so don't want a locked diff on teh street.)

Ive got a ZF - Contact brucetweddle@canada.com , he'll sort you out - It cost me about 1300 NZ$ landed from memory.
LSDs are carry on luggage, shortblocks in the suitcase... LSD weighs about 16lbs from memory.
T3 torsion bars are 27 and 28mm I think.... but Im guessing, the heavier ones are definitely in the squares.
The Wagon T3 bars are the heavier ones and they do fit in beetle I.R.S. Direct swap!
Anyone out there got experience with this swap ? how does the car drive afterwards ?
yep Type 3 rear bars are the best for racing
I have a set if yr interested $100.00 plus ship
This mod has been done before heaps of times.

I don't have type 3 torsion bars on mine & it's fine.
Jak
Hi
The original ones are 22mm, wagon ones are 23.5, well worth effort.

hate to hi jack a post but what about the front are all type 3 front bars the some
Hi steve is that the original L bug ones are 22mm? and the t3 wagon are 23.5mm?
If I had the cash I'd be keen dave, but I will hang on until I can afford a set of lowered front springs and do all 4 corners at the same time.
Oh, another hijack question
how much lower can you go with standard
length shockies and without moving spring pedestals ?
Hi
Yep L bug & supers use 22mm ones.
I’m pretty sure the wagons have heavier fronts than fastbacks & notches, my VW parts cd wont work on XP so I cant check.
To use all of the available shock length I used Mk1 golf bump stops and cut them down to take the stock dust cover, you should be able to lower about
2-3 inches.

hey BIX are you using a sway bar on the rear of that car when you race?
Yep running a a rear sway bar, which I know will help lift inside wheels, but it has really balanced the car up alot, so am trying the lower ride height eith stiffer torsion bars. Got 2 sets to play with a 23 and 24mm sets.
i had a 24mm sway bar on the back of mine which was lifting the wheel resulting in no traction so i got rid of the sway bar and solved the problem. try that and see what happens
Thats the problem I face. I even found without the sway bar I was lifting inside rear wheels. So i went and played with the sway bar and the car is now how I like it over steer, under steer wise, but still have the inside wheel lifting like before.
