split kombi glass out procedure
geodon - December 1st, 2002 at 05:30 AM

1stly, I assume the windscreens come out like a beetle. I intend to heat the rubber with a hot air gun then kick them out starting at a top corner.
2ndly the door window frames appear to be stuckin the door & won't lift out. I've found 2x8mm bolts at the A-post end, 2x8mm bolts in a line with the trailing edge of the quarter window and 2x8mm phillips head set screws at the B-post end. Have I missed a mounting bolt or two?? The quarter window appears to be part of the frame- is this NOT the case?

George,

There's two more 8 (or 10?) mm nuts up inside along the top of the door. The bottom rail of the window frame has two studs which extend down into the top of the door ......twest and wrench neck, look up and skin knuckles when removing!

Do you want to re-use the rubbers? I'd normally err on the side of saving the glass and just cut the old rubbers around the edge with a stanley knife (and release the glass that way...)

Yeah i agree with Rob

If the rubers are gone and they usually are then cut them with a knife

Its musch safer and cheaper to buy a new rubber than buy a new glass.

Thanks guys- dead right both times!
For the record I missed 2x6mm (10mm AF) nuts accessed from inside the door- best got at via a 10mm quarter drive socket on half extension attached to a ratchet.

Funnily enough anytime I checked the glass on the side windows on a kombi has usually been cheaper than the rubber, so if the rubbers are good, even though I'd hate to do it, smashing the glass is a cheaper option.

However Geodon if this is the kombi I'm thinking of, the rubbers are goosed anyway!

Cheers

Steve

If you smash the glass then what about
the ORIGIONAL etching or window glass engraving on the glass, a restoration looks heaps better if these are still intack and facing around the correct way...

just ask Rob K n have a look at his great buss:alien:alien:alien

No Steve, this is a '63 SC ute I dragged out of the Otways. I haven't quite decided what to do with that part camper yet so I'll start on this first!
