Im unsure which beetle I need, and dont want to buy one that isnt going to do what I want it to.... so

It needs to go round corners as good as possible (but dont mind using custom parts as long as they can be engineered easily) 4 wheel disc brakes, and an Ej20 (maybe T)

so what year would be the best to start with and why?

Super bug, super bug, super bug. the reason being, they have a mac strut front end not the chariot style torsion bar front end (not that they arn't good, just mac are better for street use), they are heavier, so might be easier getting a turbo motor in engineering wise, they look better, Have the IRS and L bug box and well the name says it all they are SUPER!!!!!

Plus, you should chase a 1975 super bug (1303 or L bug to be exact) as they have rack and pinion steering, the only year ever released with this feature !!

Also, super bugs have the easiest location for a radioator, removing the front spare wheel well.

The L bugs of 75, not a 74 L bug.

and that should be fairly easy to get handling awesome?

oh and one more question (a fairly important one) can you put a baby seat in 1975 Superbug? and will it already have the hook thingy?

Don't like your chances of getting a 75L bug, if you can't get a L bug, if you can't get a S bug and if not go old school and a pre 73 torsion bar front.

Ima pretty sure my 74 L bug doesn't have the hook, but you should be able to get one put in like you would a seat belt mounting point, Eg the correct grade bolt woth the load spreading plates on both sides of the correct thickness and size.

You will have to get one put in. I took mine to one of those special places and they just drilled through the rear plate under the rear window and the bolted by holding the nut with long nose pliers through the slots on the back.

75's are not THAT easy to find. but are about. I know of one for sale (at least it was a couple of months ago)
Supers are easy to lower and run decent tyres under with out going to narrowed beams etc

I agree with the above comments - but i am biased towards supers.
Hope you have deep pockets though. This aint going to come cheap.

To get a super to handle ok (well this is my daily driven street and kkanacross and hillclimb setup) you do need to spend a little.
- NEw bushes front and back approx $200
-get the Vforce lowered fron struts-$1000?
-or what I did, new king springs $200, koni reds $400,
-rearsway bar $160
-steel 5.5 inch rims by four = $500
-widened steel rims (did this later) $400
- new tires $700 to 800
-wheel alingment
approx $3000

of course its gonna be a hell of alot more to drop an ej20 in there! supers are around though.....u see mostly 71's and 73's i hav found for sale.....i have a 71(they have the flat windscreen) but the 1303 (73 onwards) super is a more modern car with more conveinent features. even if u cant find a 75 for the steering i reckon it wont be hard to find a superbug in general
