an early front beam has king pins and a late from 1968 (australian) has ball joints the early beam with the king pins has a straight shock tower with the shocks having an eye at both ends and the ball joint front end has shock towers that curve over at the top and the shocks have a stud on the top and an eye at the bottom.

thanks i now know the difference. I picked one up with adjusters in it today, it has balljoints so it's a later model one. what year models will it fit???

68,69,70.......The torsion bars are differently spaced between the king/link pin and balljoint front ends....so you can't swap a late beam to an early floorpan or vice/versa without cutting off the frame head and welding on the correct one.

It should also fit all the Non Super Beetles in the 70s & the 1976 last model Beetle..

There were non super Beetles with 1300cc engines made during the 70s.. they had drum brakes all round..
