I'm new to both Beetle ownership and to this forum, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I've recently procured a 1969 Beetle and want to ensure that it stays as close to mint condition as possible. What options are open to me when dealing with an exterior restoration and about how much will it end up costing? I have an idea that Id like to rust-proof the bug prior to spraying and also re-chrome once this is done. If possibl, Id like to turn the Beetle into a convertible, but I do not know if this is possible. A last point I'd like to know is where can I find reputable institutions to restore my Beetle. I havent been able to find any. Once again, any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers.
G day and welcome
where abouts are you???
Restorations can be expensive and or cheap
a FULL ON resto - put aside at least $10 g's
Tell us where you are and we will give some places.
Dont chop it up.
Besides the purist thing it isnt worth converting a good beetle. Find one already done. It will a LOT cheaper. Or buy a convertibe propper one.

Ive have spent the last 15months restoring a Karmann Ghia. excluding purchase price it owes me about 14 grand and its still not finished, and Ive done lots myself. if I was ever going to do it again I would spend a long time studing the different trades and do the whole thing myself. This may sound sinical but they will all try to rip you off in some way. Just remember, it will take three times longer than you thought, and cost three times more than you expected. If you are in Brisbane the only person I trust here is Mick at Mick Motors, hes a good man.
