Hey people
does anyone have a sure fire way of fuel tank removal > I have to change all my fuel hoses especially those under the tank so I thought I would clean while doing the job...at this stage im waiting to run real low on gas before I start.

also, what kind of oil is best for the tranmission and how do you get it in that side plug without pouring it all over yourself?

it depends on what tank you have, that is the year model, but simply undo the retaining bolts and hopefully the fuel hose will be long enough to let you lift the tank enough to access the clamp on the fuel line. if not you will have to undo the clamp from under the tank. Also if you have a later beetle you will need to disconnect the fuel filler neck hose and other hoses from the tank. A handy way to stop pouring fuel out the hose from the bottom of the the tank is to crimp it and tie it with a zip tie or put a screw driver into the hose and clamp it.
As for the gearbox, just normal gearbox oil is fine and you can buy a smaller container of oil with a piece of tube attached to it so you can place that into the hole and squeeze the oil in without it getting all over yourself. hope this helps

yeah, I have a 72 beetle so have all the hoses attached, looks like it may be a full tank removal for me! Thanks for the advice on the tranny oil, will look out for a couple of smaller containers

Use 90 grade oil for the gearbox and go to Auto one
U can get a large syringe for a few bucks use this to fill the gearbox with oil.
