I have this old Kombi that owes me nothing.. I was looking at the delortos on the forum for sale and at $550.00 they looked like a good price..
What I want to do is use the bus as a work/promo vehicle so i need a reliable rebuild that can handle daily city metro work (stopping/starting slow
traffic etc).. At the same time it is a show vehicle so I'd like a warmish engine that looks nice..
If I get a recond 1800 and throw the delortos on will I notice any difference in performance? Would I be better to get a good rebuild with mild
cam/balanced crank, more oil delivery etc?
I have heard that Powertune in Gladesville does good work (rebuilt the motor in my crew cab for the last owner).
I am not able or willing to do any mechanicals myself and would prefer to pay the dosh and get my money's worth.. I know it all depends on price but
I'm not looking at fantasy stuff.. Just a good looking motor with some extra grunt that can handle the job.. Lots of questions.. Hope they get
answered..

The chances of you being able to just bolt the dellortos straight on to your engine and not have to make any changes are remote. The jetting has to be
right for your engine and of course if you are making other changes the jetting may also have to be changed! If you've still got the original carbs
they are probably pretty stuffed after 30 years so an upgrade would be worthwhile.
As for other engine changes, from what I can glean from the ShopTalkForums, the best "simple" changes are to put in a mild cam and to get your
cylinders bored out to 96 mm and replace the pistons.

As to the Dells - a bit small, but i believe you can get 34 chokes for them. A mate of mine has a 2L with em and it rocks.
I would pass on Adrian at Powertune. No reason - bough a car off him. Just doest seem to want to sit and listen to what YOU want.
For Type 4's i would talk to V force.
The best "bang for buck" would have to be a 2.3L.
Stock 66mm crank and 105's.
Phil74camper (hmmm.... Phil, anyone remember him???) has this set up with stock carbs and an auto. No power beast but a torque monster.
i know of another V Force 2.3 and tha pulls a bay camper up Hawkesbury River hill at 130kms!. ........ - you allowed to say that????
