I have just put the passenger window back in.. All the rubber and scrappers..etc..
What a horror!.. I don't have the guts to butcher the drivers side, so I am looking for somewhere to go.. TOMORROW.. in SYD.. That will put it in for
me.. Cost is not an issue..
I spent hours on the passenger side and its a bloody mess.. I am so pissed.. I really want it done urgently..
I hope someone can HELP..
Rob

OK.. I've since put the headlights, indicators, wipers etc back on and I'm feeling a little self satisfied.. But I DONT want to put that window in!!!.. Come on.. Pllllease.. Who's done one before and is good at it.. Or who knows a helpful workshop that will take sympathy on a total F#%Kwit for trying something above his capability?
Where are you , i'm in Randwick , work for O'briens!
Only prob is that i'm busy t'w night! If you have no joy i could possibly help thursday night or Friday
Dan
Nice offer Danny
I am no help but i have done a beetle a couple of times and yes, it is one bitch of a job.
I will say - if you are not happy with the first window, pull it and do it again. Scratches "can" be made to look better.
I saw 2 "restore" beetles the other day and the window rubber scaper installation was terrible. Caught the window every time you tried to use the
window.
That would piss me more than the scratches
Danny.. Your a legend.. I'm in Rose Bay but can travel..
I'll get hold of you tomorrow if thats ok.. No offence if I get it done in the meantime?.. I really appreciate your offer!

How right you are!!.. Yes the offside window will do for now but I will have to redo it soon.. Every time I look at it... You know what it's like..
About a $150 in new bits I suppose (maybe not that much) and a good lesson learnt..

But hey!!!.. How good does Tonka look!!
Hey Danny> What if I come to your work tomorrow and give O'Briens a few dollars?

I have just done one of MY Beetles doors..... and it MUST be the most difficult job to do on a car... I did the drivers door fairly easily.... but
the Left hand door is a nightmare... I have had two goes with two outer scrapers.... and left the 2nd one just sitting there.... about a week & a
half ago... I haven't been back to it... I did put the inner scraper in yesterday , much harder than the other side.... I'm trying to forget the
top of the outer scraper!!! I just hope once I get it finished I never have to do it again....
Makes You wonder how the germans did hundreds of these a day... I'm just hoping that when its finally all together...
that My tinted windows don't get scratched !!!!
Lee
It will scratch your tint for sure , be very , very careful. Alot of times folk don't fit the inner scraper as it rubbing against the tint film.
Danny
Got the u2u. I'll ring you tomorrow ASAP and let you know how booked out the place is but happy to cruise over Friday and get it sorted and save you
alot of money. Sure between us we can sort it, i'll bring all my tools etc so no worries. Just get your polishing mop ready for the 67! Call you
tomorrow!

I'm hoping it dosen't scratch My tinted windows Danny..
There is a metal strip that holds the rubber inner scraper on
[with rivets] I think!! If I have a problem, I may take the metal strip off & just glue the inner scraper rubber piece into place...

Rob
Glad you where pleased with the job. Worth the time doing it right! As you can tell i'm abit fussy, sorry for taking up most of the afternoon.
Thanks for the beers , helped me finish off my 67 ready for tomorrow.
Dan
If it was mine i wouldn't fit them , seriously! Alot of people may say different but thats me and i know what i'm on about.
Yea if the glass had no tint i'd fit them for sure they'd go on, if you didn't you'd see the holes and inside of the door on the lip where it
would normally sit.
Your glass has tint and should cover this for a start . Also you don't need an inner scraper really. It doesn't do alot and doesn't stop water
entering the door. Spend more time worrying about making sure your door has been fish oiled etc.
No doudt at all IT WILL SCRATCH TINT IN TIME! The first bit of grit , dirt whatever that lodges itself between the rubber strip and the plastic
coating on the glass and your fresh tint looks shithouse! Wind your window up and down alot and it looks worse. If you drive the car alot on your own
and you really want want to fit them just leave the drivers off . Do a test fit and see what you think?
As i said my 2 cents worth but if it was me , I WOULDN'T !!

Dan.. Pleased?.. Mate I am ecstatic.. Fussy?.. Nah.. Just patient.. i wish I had some of that.. Then my badge wouldn't be in the trash this
evening..
Fellow Dubbers.. If Danny says no inner scraper if windows tinted.. Then do yourself a favour and listen..
Owe you big time.. Hope you enjoyed a beer or two (keep the wine for the other)..
By for now..
Rob
Fitting these scrapers is fussy work.. Worth doing right though..
Hi Danny,
Well I put a plain glass window in the RHS to see how it fits the bailey channel etc.. and while I'm looking at the glass going up the bailey
channel.. the outside scraper keeps grabbing on the glass and tries to go up with the glass...
I had the inner scraper out at this stage,,, You wouldn't think that the black metal or plastic ?? piece would keep grabbing onto the glass and
trying to turn itself inside out... or what ever..
I HATE Doors... and WINDOWS....
What a terrible job.....
So far everything that could go wrong HAS.....
I wonder how much two doors complete with windows etc working correctly etc... in as new order... Cost???
Then just get them painted....
