Hi i want to change the trans fluid in my girls roadster and am unsure as to how much to put in mr muuirs book says to be sure not to put in to much but then does not tell you hou much to use. Doh!Also can anyone recomend a brand
Just put in enough so that it is up to the bottom of the fill hole on the side of the gearbox. I assume its manual.
Shell sells 1 and 4 litre bottles of 80-90 GL4 (i think 80-90 is right, somebody?) gearbox oil and i believe this is the correct type.
cheers 90 hypoid is what mr muir recomends now to find a 17mm hex head

use a 17mm bolt, either bent or with vice grips. Head fits hole

the 17mm allen isnt too hard to find, i think its a GM Holden tool as well. If not you can always weld two 17mm together. Filling it is messy and
kinda difficult.
I've used a funnel and hose in the past. It takes a while for the oil to get down to the axles and through all the cogs, so fill it up till it
overflows, then wait a few minutes and repeat until it wont go anymore.
Use GL-4 rated oil - GL5 may corrode the syncros
I used Penrite 80w-90 Hypoid gear oil in my kombi gearbox. It is a GL5 oil that is ok with brass and such like.
I tried the old 17mm bolt trick and it didn't work. Then I found a 17mm hex drive for under $10. Much better!
hey Steveie
I've got a hex if ya wanna borrow it...
just go to a tool shop, not a hardware shop a proper tool shop like glenfords etc and they normally carry a 17mm hex head socket
AutoOne = $14.95 for a Kingchrome Hex thingy !
