transmission oil part 2

okay got a hex head for twenty bucks and drained and filled trans , there wasnt much in there and have since put in two ltrs of castrol hypoid 90 but could still not feel teh oil level with teh finger in teh whole trick. Does any one know exactly how much oil the transaxle should hold? And now for my real problem the reason i decided to check change the trans fluid was that about a week ago i started to notice that on cold mornings the shift into first gear was very stiff as were all gears until it started to warm up a bit and then it was alright if a little clunky. Now a week or so later the stick feels very notchy and not at all smooth in any gear change. it still changes alright but its just not smooth at all. Because of the warm up thing i thought it might be old /low fluid in the transaxle but have just changed this and it does not seem to have made any difference although at least i now know that the trans oil is good although still not sure if 2 ltrs is enough but didn't want to overfill.
could the clunkiness be the clutch maybe? The clutch pedal feels alright and the car doesn't jump out of gear at all it just is a bit stiff in the changes.:(

Fill it up until it runs out the filler hole. When the oil stops running out at a great rate of knots put the plug back in. It should take about 2.5 liters.HTH
