Does anyone have any info or advice in putitng a stock 2litre type 4 into a type 3 wagon, does the standard tinware & carbies fit under the lid,
what flywheel clutch modifications need to be done??

Amazer is probably the best person to talk to.... even though his was turboed and Haltech injected.
I have seen a stock FI 2l under the lid of a 66 notch. Seemed like a pretty nice conversion. From memory the guy told me he had a t1 flywheel adapted to the T4 crank and I guess and adaptor plate ???
I know a little (Well enough to get my self into trouble), and hope to know a lot soon (fitting a T4 to my beetle), but I have read that you can
remove the T1 throw out bearing pad on the pressure plate and fit it to the T4 clutch, or fit a 1971 and on T1, T2, T3, throw out bearing support
tube. The other part you have to change is to fit the T1 pilot bearing to the fly wheel which is just a case of machining a bigger hole to fit the T1
style needle bearing and press it in, it should still stand out a little I am told.
Also try the Type4rum.com for loads of info... loads of real T4 tech heads there.

Hope this helps sorry I do not know any T3 stuff.
Don't know much myself but have always been interested. Heres a link, http://tunacan.net/t4/tech/type3.shtml

Thanks for the replies guys.

As already stated the normal flywheel/clutch mods need to be done-very easy to do.Exhaust is an issue with the heater boxes being too long-easy to shorten to use Type4 muffler or extractors.Big issue is carbies.Stock won't fit under lid-need to go to small Webers or Dels and and then work out what combo air filter thickness vesus manifold height. The Yanks are using the shortest Type4 dual Weber manifolds and having them shortened even more to get good filters under the cover. You can easily make a snorkel to fit around the Type4 fan so you can hook up the original Type3 air intake bellows.Rear hanger is an easy mod.
Jak, could you raise/customise the floor of the T3 to fit the carbies ??
I was going to shorten the manifolds as the car is used as a daily driver work vehicle. Rear engine cover must stay at stock height
