a mid mount 40 dcn weber will always kick a Holley Bug Sprays ass????? is this a valid statement??

Craig Torrens - April 22nd, 2004 at 05:37 PM

Nup.

but everyone will have there favourite carbies !:thumb

vw54 - April 22nd, 2004 at 05:47 PM

Coff Coff depends on who U talk too...

Craig Torrens - April 22nd, 2004 at 05:51 PM

Coff Coff............you sound like a poorly tuned holley:P

Menangler - April 22nd, 2004 at 07:00 PM

Yes and a stock carby will kick a 40 DCN mid mount Weber's arse for drivability, fuel economy, and not far behind in performance either.

get a set of Kadrons if you want a good performance gain or twin 40DCN Webers.

68AutoBug - April 22nd, 2004 at 08:22 PM

Holley Bug Sprays really make Your engine go.... but uses lots of fuel... and are terrible in cold weather...
Webers are very expensive...
Kadrons seem to be OK.. and don't seem to use any more fuel if they are set up correctly...
I suppose there are many VW engines with the wrong carby setup.. incorrect jets etc.. that use heaps of fuel...

what would be a good mid mount single carb set up for a 1600 SP with extractors and high flow twin exhaust.....the 28 solex on the baja chokes a bit when u give it a gut full

Quoll - April 22nd, 2004 at 08:49 PM

you could try a bigger solex carby say a 32 dunno what kind of performance increase you'd get though? I also have read that SP head have lots of low down torque but choke at higher revs
Hope this helps,
Justin

Anthiron - April 22nd, 2004 at 08:53 PM

i can get the twin port heads, manifolds and carbie off my shitta superbug and wack them on......would that be sufficient ?

Anthiron - April 22nd, 2004 at 08:55 PM

the super bug has a 34 on it.....so i will try that

Craig Torrens - April 22nd, 2004 at 09:39 PM

sounds like a good idea ! With the twinport heads you can then put Kadrons on if you want.

Anthiron - April 22nd, 2004 at 09:44 PM

yeah but its a baja and it wont fit twin carbs under the back scoopy thing

Anthiron - April 22nd, 2004 at 09:44 PM

unless they were on really short manifolds.....but id rather a central mount to stop dirt and the like getting into it in the bush

Craig Torrens - April 22nd, 2004 at 10:47 PM

I had a Holley on my Baja (16years ago!) and it worked well. Changed to Kads and had no probs with fitting them.

Twins fit in a standard beetle engine bay, why not your Baja ? The scoopy thing wouldn't be any closer to the engine than a beetle bootlid :jesus

Anthiron - April 22nd, 2004 at 10:52 PM

yeah u have a point lol

cumonghia - April 24th, 2004 at 04:32 PM

I cant afford twins at the moment, and my center mount weber is buggerd, corosion has gotten into it. it just wont set up properly at all ever. whats another alternative for a 1916 motor? until I can save up for twins

Peter Leonard - April 24th, 2004 at 06:30 PM

don't waste your money. save and get the twins later, deal with what you have now :D

56astro - April 24th, 2004 at 07:07 PM

I have twin Kads on my 1916 and the engine runs on

and keeps going

and going

and going

It just never stops going ..... hard

(couldn't help myslef :P )

that's cos of the lack of a fuel cut off solenoid ;)
try letting the clutch up as you turn off the key and blip the throttle.

Holley Bug sprays are pretty tall, would one fit under a Kamann deck lid?

bigbruvabob - April 25th, 2004 at 05:50 PM

john at volks home in melb showed me a brand new pair of 34 ict webers complete with manifolds , filters, linkages the whole kit and caboodle, for 850-00. he has been putting them on new 1600,s with great results. thay look the bomb are a good price and are nice and small so fit real easy. i will get a pair for our 1600 roadster as soon as i got cash. currently the new motor is being let down by a crappy 34 pict and new pict is nearly 500 bucks

Craig Torrens - April 25th, 2004 at 09:11 PM

Has anyone done it? How much did it cost all up? Was there a problem with customs?
