Wanted: Good Gear for Type IV Motor.
AndyL - April 29th, 2004 at 06:28 PM

I want to build a type iv motor with all the good gear for my splitty. I've heard that Mahle pistons are the go with 48 Webers, but really don't know what other internals to use. The capacity will be about 2.5 litres with a Porsche type cooling shroud. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Andy

You may want to take a look at these sites if you haven't already:

(type4rum and aircooledtechnology forum)

http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/

Once you start to stroke a type IV be prepared to outlay some serious cashola. Add another good chunk of dough for the porsche fan/alternator. Not trying to discourage (I'm in the middle of a relatiely stock typeIV upright conversion), just be prepared. Not that Jake Raby is the typeIV god, but he has done a lot of dyno tests to back up his opinions (not just opinion with no evidence) - he doesn't rate the porsche fan conversion that highly (but of course his DTM shroud is recommended)...just do your research, thats all.

Give Stan a call on 0266543694, he's done plenty of T4's.
Built a nice motor a month or so ago for a 914 porsche, customer was very happy.Maybe he could advise?
