jakriz - April 29th, 2004 at 06:44 PM

What mods need to be done to get a L-Bug box into a 72 IRS type 3 wagen, does the nose cone need to be changed?
regards
Jak

Hi Jak

Check the nose cone and also make sure the dimple is in the shaft for the Type3, they go in from the bottom, most late boxes have a top and bottom hole.

it's not a stupid question, an L-Bug is the curved windscreen superbug from 73 to 75 I think, & the gearbox is a single sideplate box with a higher final drive.

Do you need a gearbox Jak, or do you already have one??

4.1 instead of 3.8 ratio in the T3

hahaha. i jsut did this recently. mine is a 72, and was poping out of fourth. got a free lbug box of my mate, saint.
thought this would be simple, and in the end it was. but yes you do have to change the nose cone. not hard. just make sure it is in neutral and you slip the dog leg in nice and smooth. i undid the axles of the lbug and just attached the axles from neville as the box went in. the only problem i had was that the flywheel was touching the top of the housing of the box. so it wouldnt go on all the way. in the end, i ended up gringng a bit out of the bellhousing all round the top. everything slipped in, and now neville goes like the wind.
gotta love those lbug boxes.

Jak

The ratio might be a bit stuffed up for the extra weight of a Type 3,

The gear shift Puck is the only bit you need to change because of teh extra dimple in it on the under side, so u can get the grub screw in.

Carnt understand why Twoguns had trouble with the bell housing dont see any problems there ???

yeah i know, no one understands, but i did. and it took alot of checking and double checking and fitting and cursing b4 it worked. remember though this was my first so i dont know what happened. bu tit all works now.
the dimple... didnt htat get changed automatically when i changed the nose cone?
