Can I use a 1600 kombi gearbox in a 1500 beetle?

just wondering - mines getting a bit crunchy going down into second, and i'm about to replace the pan, sooooo while the body is off I may as well do all the bits and bobs while i'm at it

motor is a 1600 btw

NO not really. You need to have an IRS floorpan to fit a Kombi gearbox. The 1500 beetle does not have this type of floorpan................Sorry.

Unless you replace with an IRS pan ????

just checking on VWFools site, http://vwfool.tk/  - apparently the 69 was an IRS pan, on all models

according to my documents, and the site info my chassis number is for a 69, so should be IRS

i'll find out when I take it apart I spose!

nah in australia cv's were later.
technically all beetles have irs, what you are referring to are cv's.
my 69 and 70 beetles both have swingarm.
look underneath, if you see two thick (about 'v' soft drink can thickness) black tubes heading out to the wheels then you have swingarm, if you see thin ones then you have cv's.
