well, on my speco tacho the green wire is the one that goes to the coil. not too sure about yours though

Rhys

The WHITE wire is to the coil as you see it has a loop in it this is for the pulsations from the coil.

You need a direct power supply whch would be to the box and proberly the RED wire.

Whats the 3 terminals say on the back ???

Try this:
Red: Switched +ve 12V
Green: Chassis
Pink: Light
White: Coil -ve (points)

That's pretty common coding. You can stick a multimeter from the case of the tach to the green to make sure it's ground (should be about 0.4ohms.) If you were to switch the coil and supply wires it won't do any harm, it just won't work.

hey
there are 2 white coloured wires coming out from the same terminal do they both go to the -ve side of the coil???
and were the red wire goes the 3 outlets say from bottom to top (as per pic) it says 12V , + , 6V the
the 12V wire looks to be earthed out and the red wire on the + is the power????

kombi_kid - May 6th, 2004 at 09:54 AM

does the white wire go to just the -ve of the coil even though there are are 2 wires (realy on but looped around the sensor for the tacho to measure RPM?) or is one a earth and the other to the negative??

Remove that bracket and take another pic.

kombi_kid - May 6th, 2004 at 11:04 AM

kombi_kid - May 6th, 2004 at 05:31 PM

tried fitting it into a car with the wiring already in it this is what i found
with one end of the white wire going down to the coil it doesnt work
with both ends onto the same wire that runs to the coil it doesnt work
with one end going to the coil and the other end on an earth it works but the car kick(turns over but wont start)????
what ya reacon guys?

Hey I have run that eact one of those in my bug, but got rid of it. Now I cut the wire from the neg side of the coil and then ran this foward to the gauge and then back to the engine. I will have a look at mine and tell you how I had it hooked up. Also try lil dub as she runs the same in her type 3, she (or mabye get one of us)may be able to have a look under the dash

BiX - May 6th, 2004 at 05:43 PM

but from your photo, the power and earth should be shown, I think green is poweer red is earth? the black i the lights earth and the pink is the lights power. The white is your feed from the neg side of the dissy.

kombi_kid - May 6th, 2004 at 06:05 PM

green screws into the back of the tacho aswell as the black (earth for light as u say) so red is definately power , green earth????
far out this is confusing!!! might go see the auto electrician!?????
