2 questions i hav no idea about,
1. wondering if u can u fit type 3 wide-5 rear drums to the front of a link pin beetle?
2. and, if not, can u fit just the drums to the rear, and use the existing short axles that r on ur car already, just undo the axle nut, slip off the
old drums and replace with the bigger type 3 ones?
or do u hav to use the whole axle and everything that came with the drums?
may sound stupid but ur info helps
thanks

Sam,
The short answer is no, as the rears have a drive spline in the drum, whereas the fronts simply have a bearing housing. I dont see why you couldnt use
the front drums off a T3 though.
The rear drum conversion requires approx 20mm to be cut off the 'nipple' on the drum to fit. Apart from that and changing the shoes, its a bolt up I
believe.

Doug
much appreciated doug thanks
wouldn't you need the backing plates for the rear drums and shoes too then? and the handbrake lever etc?
I suspect that You would change everything over...
The brake shoes are wider for the wider brake drums plus they may be a larger diameter... not sure..
but I believe that You would change everything....
I would...

To go to T3 Drums all I think you need is:-
The drums
20mm off the rear hub (like Doug said)
shoe's/pads
T3 wheel cylinders
and use the old h/brake cable
for the front
Drums
shoe's
W/cylinders
and Bearings, you can get taped roller bearings from CBC or somebody like that
But if your gunna do that why not put disc brakes on the front
