Im getting a brand new motor installed too, are any of the oils you guys mentioned friction modified? bad for a new motor is it not? she doesnt bed in properly. If an oil doesnt clearly state FM, does that mean its not?
i've been told it doesn't matter what oil you use, oils is oils... I have a feeling this is true...
would it be stupid to put 10W50 oil into my baja??? ..........i have an unopened bottle here.....is it to thick?
I dont think 10-50 is too thick, GTX2 is 20-50, which means that it is thicker than 10-50.
I put GTX2 in both my bugs, 1641 and 1835.
I would like to know what other ppl with 1835's are using though...
I am runing 25 W50 in my 1641 .Any one have ajustable pressure valves fitted & wat would the pressure be runing at ?? seagull:alien
mmm, i have a pressure guage and it never goes over 350 (kpa i think)
mm thats good to know this is on the 1641 ??
Castrol GTX2 is recommended for Air Cooled VWs...
NOT their friction modified Castrol Magnatec.....
which I was going to use... Castrol say Use GTX2...
sorry no it's on the 1835.

GTX 2 here also
Why not magnatec? I have been using it in the roadster and it seems ok? Engine runs cool and warms up nicely even on cold mornings and oil seems to stay clean longer than others i have used.
THink about this: if the oil is clean, your engine remains dirty...
I use GTX2 in everything I own - V8s and VWs.
For all those with new engines: There is a thread on here about running-in - use the search funtion to find it
I did a search for running in a new engine, oil to use etc and found nothing.
Got an old car run an old oil somethin that says FOR OLD WORN OUT RELICS or sumthin like that,so there dudes.
Use 25w/50 or sand
GTX2 here, seems to be OK.
(yay - another oil thread!) I don't know if any of these will be particularly relevant, but here you go...

I'm sure there must be more. Cheers dudes,

Shell 10w-50 semi synthetic. Works great. Leaks more but runs up to 10 degrees cooler for me.
CASTROL GTX 2 for air cooled engines....
Lee
Penrite HPR 50
10w 30 in winter and 20 50 in summer... cause its air cooled, you need a thin oil (ie 10 30) so it can circulate and disipate heat quickly.. see
vintage vee dubs (sydney)... they recommend the 10 30 for all air cooled..
