1/ i have window/door rubbers that i want to reuse. needs a rejuvination as such. what do i soak it in?
2/ i have aluminium bumper trim and i want to polish it up some more. what do i use to help shine aluminium up and rub back/ou the pitted bits?
thanks
guys.
I have always found kero works well to rejuvenate rubber. A good soak after that and a liberal application of a rubber protectant.
1) I have found that soaking in a rubber/vinyl rejuvenator or protectant for a couple of days works a treat. Meguir's is a good one. I have heard
that silicon containing solutions eg Armorall can have long term detrimental effects.
2) To remove pits use a wet/dry paper with water. The deeper the pits the coarser the paper, but I don't usually go past a 400grit. If you start at
400, go to 800 and finish with a 1200. Then polish with your choice of metal polish. POR 15 Artisan polish is quite coarse, so it gets rid of
sanding scratches quickly but leaves fine scatches of its own. Maguirs metal polish is very fine and leaves a beautiful shine, but it takes ages. On
the bright side, aluminium looks like chrome when its polished.
try 0000 grade steel wool and some lightoil wd40....... works a treat, maybe use with a polish then the polish with a soft rag to really finish it up after youve smoothed the pits out with wet and dry, 1200 gives a smooth and cloudy apprearance..... i did it to my standoffs recently just for somethng to do lol
thnks for the info, adam.
