Hi, i have just pulled the motor out of the kombi which is a 1800, i am changing the box, i have a 1600 box which i am fitting, the question is do i
have to change the input shaft off the 1800 box to the 1600 box as it is shorter, i have read other posts and it seems you can get away without
changing the shafts, is this advisable?? can i get away with it?? your comments will be appreciated.. Thanks
Andy
I thought the 1600 and 1800 shafts were the same, only the 2 ltr was longer???
g/day dave, i removed the box today and i measured the shaft and the 1800 was 8-10mm longer?
Andy
Andy,
If you are putting the 1600 gearbox into the later kombi with the 1800 engine. Then yes, you will have to change the input shaft and reverse drive
gear, along with the bell housing, the front mounting bracket and the nose cone studs.
It is not a major job.
In the real world, you would release the tension on the diff side plates before removing the bell housing.
But most of the time the preload has gone off them anyway.
The box i am changing is identical apart from the ribs 3 and 5 and the shaft is longer, the bell housing is the same etc etc, but the question is can
i get away with it as i have read other post stating they have a 1600 box married up to a 2ltr motor and this works for them, Mmmmmm
Andy
Andy,
Does your bellhousing have the top mounts (ears)?
Maybe your bellhousing has been changed before?
What size clutch/flywheel are you using?
