petrol leak

There was a very strong smell of fuel in the Kamann today after filling the tank. I checked under the bonnet and there was fuel seeping out of the fuel tank into the spare wheel well. You know how theres a big cut out that the tank sits in, and theres a flange running all the way around the tank where the bolts secure it down. well its along that front seam or flange. Is that where the tank was joined together when it was made? If so is it possible for it to leak out of that join that runs all the way around the tank?

Yes it can leak there at the join. Remove the tank and check it out properly. If it is not to rusted out to bad a radiator repair shop should be able to repair it 4 U. Might be best to get another tank though if it is that bad.......

the tank was cleaned at a fuel tank specialist, and the inside came up like a mirror, and it looks very sound on the out side. A karmann fuel tank would cost a billion dollars Im sure, and thats if I could find one. I hope the radiator bloke can fix it.

Just get them to do a pressure test to determine where it is leaking. Can you take it back to the "specialist" who cleaned it and get them to put a sealer on the inside of the tank???This would solve all your problems and prevent any further rusting. It's well worth the effort to get it done!!!

come to think of it he did do a presure test, but that was months ago. And this is the first time its had more than 5 bucks worth or fuel in it. but yes I'll take it back to him. Thankyou

Could be just leaking at the seams, but not rusty. Let's hope.
