hey, im rebuilding my 1500 to eventually go in my bug, guna use some dual 28pict carbs and give it an old school kinda look..... so i need a few
opinions
not looking for too much performance but chances are il have a dig at porting the heads with the dremmel, unshrouding the valves and whatnot for
better breathing, guna use the stock crank, should i change the cam while im in there for something mild...... od keep the stocker? can i get and is
it worth straight cut cam gears with the early style cam?
i have extractors aswell for it....... any other suggestions..... failing this il be saving up a HEAP of cash for a 1776 and 1500 gearbox heh e
opinions and ideas welcome, lets brainstorm
Try to find an original or repro Fram oil filter (a la Porsche 356 !).
single port ?
go 1640cc, mild cam (I would use a Pobjoy 22/62), twin solex carbs and extractors. Use a high volume oil pump.
Use the 040 single port heads, they flow better than the original single ports, they were available as replacement heads.
If you want to keep it 1500, then just change the cam.
As for straight cuts, don't bother.
Any larger and you will need a dual relief case and best to use TP heads.

I have a new 1641 for sale twin webbers cam new heads ect ect
Straight cuts ..... they were coz they sound cool i have no idea what benefit they would be hehehe...... and id like to keep it 1500 as the rings pistons and everything else is fine and im on a bugdget, rather spend $$ on a cam than more barrels which i can upgrade later with a simple topend rebuild...... should i add rockers or nething like that ?..... any other ideas..... im getting keen to begin hehe
go the billet way, single ports go great with weber itc's
