I ran one on a 2180 with 44 idfs, no worries. Never had an issue with it. Changed it to a 009 - couldnt feel any difference, car ran no better or worse.

To summarise, they are different, but I dont know how, I timed them at 3000 rpm to 32 BTDC, didnt take any other notice.

Hope that helps :-)

This is from aircooled.net

The 009/010 is best used for stock rod ratio engines, where you do not want to do all this customer ignition curve work. Let me first say that I'm not a fan of the 050. The 050 has a different advance curve, and it's more suited for short rod engines (like the type 4), or engines with a bigger crank and shorter rod (78 stroke with Porsche length rods, etc).

I mainly hear about them on Type 4 powered motors

i have used an 050 on my 1641 and 1916, over the 009, due to the recommendation of 2 vw mechanics and it has been great. i would definately recommend it

Golde60 - May 24th, 2004 at 07:21 PM

so apart from being more suitable for a t4 or shorter rod ratio engine, what is the difference?

or should i saw why is it more suitable for this application.

if it is more suitable for this type of application, i am very curious, as it may be advantageous for me to use it on my t4.

Golde60 - May 26th, 2004 at 07:07 PM

just wondering whether anyone has an opinion as to whether this would suit my t4 better than the 009

Golde60 - June 6th, 2004 at 01:14 PM

bump

seagull - June 6th, 2004 at 03:04 PM

I have been asking so far no good sorry .

Golde60 - June 15th, 2004 at 02:36 PM

so steve - how does the 050 go?

is it going onto a t4?

still chasing info on this.

on the shoptalkforms everyone is telling me to get a mallory, but they seem like alot of work and very expensive.

.....bump. whats the 050 like?

anyone?

Haven't got it yet. Craig's sending / bringing it up with some other stuff when he's up this way again, so I don't know yet.
