The car should swerve all over the road over 50mph, especially in a cross wind, and understeer wildly. :P

Find a beetle that you know doesn't have a narrowed beam and take some measurements from it, or someone here will hopefully be able to help (I don't
own a beetle so can't help sorry)

Don't know what this is about, One of my mates has a 4 inch narrowed beam and it rides nice all the way up to 100mph. If they're done right, they
work.

You can only measure the beam itself. Not drum to drum.
Also have a look at the inner guards there should be a gap between the shock tower n the inner guard. If its been narrowed the gap will be less,
providing the car has not been pranged smashed around too muh.

Actually I've got one too and it's great. I was only having a little joke. Only bad narrowing jobs do that...

That's cool, I know what you mean about bad ones though. I rode in one and it shook badly. But that's what you get when it's done with no jig to
hold everything straight!

Not much room there Sam btwn the tower and the guard. We should have compared on the day. Mitchell
