so got me new back rims for my Sbug 15x6 4 stud (took a while to get).
now the rims came with 195-60's on them which I'll get a month out of them.
was thinking to go with 205 but should my tyre height be 60 or 70 profile?
don't wont to stuff up my speedo, so is 70 the original profile...
its not written on my tyres that are on my bug now what the profile is

Your speedo runs off your front left wheel.... rear tyres size won't affect speedo accuracy. 
205/70/15 is taller than std
I got 205/65/15 on the rear and they are slightly taller than std. (195/60/15 on the front)
As Kol said, the speedo runs off your front left wheel, so changing rear tyre height only changes engine speed at a given road speed.
I have 205/65 on my rear end, they are pretty good. Just watch the offset as mine just touched the inner guard flange under heavy cornering. But yeah,
I'm sure you've already thought of that.
They look nice and fat if that's the look you're going for
The Standard Overall Diameter for a beetle is around 630 mm
185/65R15 = 620
195/65R15 = 635
205/60R15 = 630
Any of these are within + or - 15 mm of standard and therefore legal. The ODs will vary up to 5mm form tyre to tyre.
Personally I'd choose 185 fronts and 195 rears. That's plenty for a beetle. Remember heavier wheels and tyres put more strain on the bearings,
suspension and steering components. They may also reduce your turning circle and make the steering heavier.
After you fit the tyres make sure they don't rub when the car is at full lock in either direction. Adjust the steering stops back so the tyres don't
rub.

hey CT, I've read in a couple of manuals that the standard height is close to 650mm than 630... therefore, 205/65/15 is pretty spot on....
Robnjo, I'm running 225/60/15 and they look good! Granted i've got 7" rims, but I think they'll fit on a 6" rim if you want the balloon tyre
look...
note: on my 64 beetle, the tyres didnt stick out from the guards at all, but on my 54, it sticks out about 1/2", probably coz the rear suspension of
th e64 was lower due to sag...

what brand is the 185/65? and how much are they? are they easy to find?
I used to have 195/50 in front but they rubbed on the fender and made it unsafe to drive.
ive got 235 bridgestone eagers on the rear of my baja......they might be a little to wide.....

falken made the 326 in 185/65 r 15. used to run them now run st115 falkens 195/60 and 205/60
got a set of 14 x 6 wide fives for my splitty too,but they came with 207 bridgestones on them.
put them on the back but they stick out a bit so might go with 195's on there too?
its got 185's on the front.
