split g box question
t2 - May 25th, 2004 at 06:32 PM

how hard is it to flip the ring and pinion gear to get the bus running forwards after removal of the reduction hubs on a straight axel conversion?
also what parts are needed to put discs on the straight axel?

i already have a 68 front beam complete with discs a new master cylinder and a brake booster sitting waiting to be put in

get out of the wrong side of the bed did we? sometimes some poeple ask things because they dont know.
as it is the car is lowered with the reduction hubs as a result the redux hubs have been starved of oil and are no good
i dont want to get a different box because mine is fine and i dont see the point buying a new one if i can still use mine, mike down at cbb was going to flip the ring and pinion for me (was his suggestion) all i want to do is save the cash and do it myself maaaaan

well i guess was I was trying to get accross was You can pick up a swing axel box for $50.00 and it would fit right in .You would need to pay some one to do it ,as you need to set the back lash and blue it the pinion ect .
You reduction box would be worth more keeping it as is and placing it to one side .
If you pull it down you would find all typs of problems like it would be grumbling as the ware has shifted .

You can do a cheap and good disk brake set up with a ford conversion .seagull going to bed but no sleep as baby in the house !

I think when you flip the R and P in a bus box and remove the redux boxes you end up with higher ratios than a beetle box. i spoke to a guy who had a beetle box fitted with redux boxes in his bus and it was way slow. The down side is you need more power to move it. Then there are other issues with fan speeds and cooling but that is something for another time.
