Can someone please enlighten me as to how the speedo cable connects at the front wheel? I assume it will go into a thingamejig that connects somehow
to a rim, wheel, etc, advice?
Reason I am asking - the speedo in my bug ('69) 'pulses' rather than reading steady - when driving around 30 mph it constantly swings back and
forward between about 20 and 40 (example). When you drive slower, the swing speed reduces. When driving faster, the swing speeds up. I therefore
reckon that where the whoseewhatsit connects to the wheel it mustn't meet properly and therefore connect on only part of a rotation.
However I am open to suggestions...where else can I look? I can't get under there yet to look at it (recovering after an op) but want to get an idea
by the time I can get there.
Thanks....
its a direct connecttion, right through the middle of the wheel... you will see the cable come directly out form behind the speedo and to the middle of the front wheel.. replace the speedo :p
B4 you replace the speedo the centre cap it joins could have rounded out.
It connects to the centre of the front passenger wheel. It is a square ended cable that is cir clipped into a square hole.
IF this hole rounds out it will do what you say
Hope you are feeling better
could also be in the cable, the cable might be about to fray.
I'm with BiX
Mine did the same thing .............
right before it broke.
You could also try taking it out and clean it with a solvent then oil it I did this which helped with mie that was al over the place
