Does anyone know if these are considered to be legal in Vic for everyday road use?

I mean just the little bump stop things with some round bar welded on a bracket, you know what I mean right?

From Vic roads:

Bumper Bars/Bull Bars

Bumper bars and bull bars, where fitted, must be secure and designed to eliminate sharp corners or protrusions which might cause injury to other road users. They must not obscure any lamps, unless additional lamps are fitted, and must not substantially exceed the normal width of the vehicle body. ADRs and VicRoads information sheets cover visibility angles of lamps. Ends of bumper bars must turn towards the body to a sufficient extent to avoid any risk of hooking or grazing.

If I had wide tubes(in inch or so) fitted with stoppers on them this should be cool?

Sorry mate, I don't know...

if they have no sharp corners and dont obstruct things just like the rule u posted says.....then i cant see a problem with having them fitted.....its more whether they are deemed to be in sufficient to replace the old VW bumpers for saftey ETC....which i couldnt tell you.....the best thing would be to ask an engineer or a mechanic who does safety certs and see what he/she says.

I have them on my '69 beetle

Based on your description from vic roads I'd say they would be illegal
as mine are just flat bar with rod on the end chromed identical to the "genuine" aluminium ones you can get from empi.
Every time I drive it i expect to get pulled up for them as those who
don't know VW's wouldn't understand the "cal look".

legal issue would arise from lack of number plates.

i have been thinking that this would be an option for me once my car is painted and i am waiting on bumpers.

but i have two problems:
1. where do i locate the front number plate (possibly attach it to one of the T bars)
2. given that i have shaved a W lid and have no number plate position or light, where do i put the rear plate?

if you are going to vic roads with your T bars, i would be vrey interested in hearing what they say about the legalities.

I was going to put the front plate either centred on a bar between the two, but I've seen this and it's not that nice in my opinion. The second option is to have a small bracket welded to one of the T bars and mount the plate in front of one of the guards. I've seen this also and it looks ok. The third option is to mount it somehow to the front apron...havn't really thought about doing this much yet.

What do people think of these three ideas? Iv'e yet to get em welded up.

I have a small hole drilled in the flat of each tbar and have a thin rod with the plate mounted to it.
The plate sits central between the tbars. Not the best look but its gotta go some where. I quite often take it iff if i'm cruising with other dubs.
I thought it looked a bit odd when it was offset on one of the tbars

does the relavant state body allow you to run relfective stickers of number plates? assuming they still have the same visibilty and size of standard ones

there used to be a guy on the forum, vw_carrera, with a bug in Melbourne without a front bumper.

I don't run bumpers (front or rear) and just have the front one zipped tied to the left front bumper bracket (it was mangled so juts bent it back into rough shape)
