I have a 63 bodied beetle that will be running 12V system. For engineers approval (and for user-friendliness) I'd like to run two speed 12V wipers.

Does anyone have any links to a site with such a conversion, or have pics/advice on how to achieve this?

Allan-haven't done my Oval yet but have done a 356SC Porsche 12 volt conversion.The original set up looked similar to a beetle,but the motor sits on the opposite side of the mounting frame, but used a motor from a 73 Beetle.Modded the attaching brackets and cut and shut the crank arm to use all the Porsche control arms.Had to re key the crank to the motor shaft to get the arms in the correct park position.Looking at my job I think it will be a lot easier.Will probably try to adapt an early Valiant 2 speed switch so I can have the washers by pushing the knob in.Haven't spent any time on this yet to adapt the early VW ivory knob.

isnt 68 12v, i think they have 12v but the motor looks similar to the 6volt, and has same length as 6v wiper mechanism
thats from memory anyway, some one corect me if iam wrong
i am preety sure that was what i ended up doing when i switched my 59 over

I had a conversion already done on my 63 when i bought it. It was done by Vintage Vee dub. It basically has an extra knob with a variable resistor (like a dimmer) which can vary the speed of the wipers in an infinite degrees in a range. The only bad thing about it is that when u set it to slow it moves the wipers slow - i would like to try to make it pause between each wipe, but move the wipers quickly.

From memory I think Dave Birchall has done the conversion a different way all-together.

I am about to do the same conversion to my Baja ('65 bug). My brother has done it before using a '68 12V wiper motor - can't remember all the details at the mo' but I will ask him next time I see him (later in the week) - I think I remember him fitting the '68 wiper motor to an early wiper frame, then having to extend the arm that attaches to the motor shaft so that the wipers had the correct travel....I'll check it out.
