Hello,
My windscreen wipers move at such a slow pace that they are useless....anyone got any idea why???? Behind the switch under the dash it gets very
hot....does this give a clue???
Thanks,
66kombi
If that is the case i would say "high resistance " joint.
You are dropping volts across the switch and not the motor.
Look into it soon - the joint is burning up the volts and making heat. Not good.
Could just be a bad connection or a dodgy switch.
Yep, what ever is getting very hot needs to be replaced.
Heat means resistance, too much heat means fire!
Thanks guys appreciate the response.....So i should take the parcel tray off (splitty) and take the motor out and sand the connections to see if that
works???....If not take it too a motor electrician????

"Behind the switch under the dash it gets very hot.... "
it "IS "the switch that is getting hot?? - yes?? or do you mean the area in general
my guess is it is more the switch rather than the motor.
It is probabally the contacts "inside" the switch.
my windscreen wipers do that too, but the car ahsn't been driven for over a year, so it probably needs new motors or something
spot on blue74l! It is the switch which gets hot....so should is this something that i can fix or does it nedd professional help??
Thanx,

Yes it is some thing you should be able to do your self.
I have no knowledge of how to take a switch out of a split.
I dont even know it the wires push on with lugs or screw on to tabs. For starters make sure the wires are making a solid / tight connection. If it is
6 volt then you are pushing more amps round than 12 volts and a bad join will get hot quicker.
If the wires seem tight enough write down what order they connect on to the switch, disconnect and remove the switch
Have a look and see how you go
Hi
I lost the high speed on my supers wipers and I found the spring for the brush was soft, new spring no problems. Has the wiper motor ever been
serviced?

he he sounds like a problem i have with my dub, (golf mk1) It seems to stop half way through its cycle on slow, but on fast it will keep going all the way through and super fast the same. So if it isnt raining hard i have to fiddle with the stalk until i can see again. Its happened for a while but since it doesnt rain much it hasnt mattered. winter brings out these problems. ideas welcome
