How to Stop rust on Taiwanese chrome
68AutoBug - December 16th, 2002 at 10:49 AM

I have found that Taiwanese reproductions of all sorts... rust or tarnish in a short period of time. I have just renovated My House and We had to have all these nice gold light fittings etc.... and I've seen how these go dull or pit very quickly.... So I made sure I didn't touch any of the gold parts - and I sprayed them with a clear pressure pack paint - It is important to use a good brand of paint such as DULUX -BERGER- Taubmans etc... the more expensive it is... the better it SHOULD be ... Just give the item many light coats.... and leave it in the sun for a few hours... You can mask the lens up...but the paint won't hurt them ... Actually, if Your Tail lamps or indicator lenses are a bit dull.... give them a bit of a spray also.... to make it easy... just put car polish all around the lamps so the paint won't stick.. or what I do when I'm feeling lazy... I just wrap a piece of damp cloth around the lamp..... Now fancy writing all this on MY :birthday:birthday:birthday .... Lee

For what it is worth here is a tip i read the other day and put it in practice on the weekend.
I had a good bumper that had been sitting in a workshop for a "long" time and bits of metal dust had settled on it causing rust pitting. Trying to get these off was hard. Anyway some how i was reading a crap mag/sun paper and there was an add for vinegar.
They said to scrup it with alfoil and vinegar - IT BLOODY WORKED. The alfoil was strong enough to take the pitting off wothout scatching and the vinegar reacted to take the rust stains off the chrome.

Anyway i am happy and will continue using this one

PS Lee ..... in my set up you typing comes out yellow and is next to impossible to read. I have to highlight it so it goes blue letters and white background.
Wanna be boring and leave it alone.......first ya went mad on the faces now colours...... :D

I have the standard blueish grey colour scheme and any of the colours make the text hard on the eyes. Sure, they stand out though!
