Hey all.
Was wanting to get a bug as my first car as some of you are no doubt aware... Unfortunately I'm 17, and don't have much cash... So basically, I want
to be able to serivice the car myself... Is there any chance someone here (in Melbourne, Eastern Suburbs) can teach me a thing or two?
Maybe even if when I get my bug, bring it in for a service, and I'll happily pay the service fee, just I do everything, so I can learn how to look
after her?
Thanks,
Joel
Joel, have you joined the Vic VW club??? Well worth it. They often have Tech days were you can learn stuff like tune ups and oil changing and the
like.
The other must do if you are learning about VW's is to buy a book called
" How to Keep your VW Alive for the complete Idiot" by John Muir. It a great book written in plain english for the car nut who doesnt have a great
deal of technical back grounding.
The incredibly generous 3.5ltr buggy is sending me a copy of the book on Tuesday!!! Many many many thanks to him.
But where do I join Vic VW Club?
Just follow this link young fella ---------->
http://www.vwclub.com.au/
Thanks for that! Yeah, I took a look, but there's no mention of WHEN tech days are, jsut WHAT they are... and I don't have a bug, does that mean I
can't become a member? And I can't come for any member's days either... Tuesdays... I've got school and live in South Eastern Suburbs... not to
mention cruises I can't attend coz I'm bug-less
Givem a ring or drop in im sure they wont kick u out, they welcome new members, even without wheels,do it man, just ring up and ask em when there next
tech day is,yule be an overnite pro, almost.
You are better off learning from a VW Club....
Many Mechanics these days either don't want to know about Volkswagens or actually DON'T Know about Volkswagens...
that is why Most VW owners like to do their own tune ups etc
then You know its done properly...
I'm NOT knocking the VW workshops who Can & Do work on Volkswagens.... but they are few & far between...
VW clubs are there for their members, whether You have a bug or not.....
Best of Luck --

Thanks for that.
I was just asking on here to try and find a VW mechanic who knows the cars intimately and loves them to pass on his knowledge
if your short on cash its best to join the VIC club on the Day of the Volkswagen ...which I think is on the 28th Nov. you can join even if you don't
have a vw at the moment... the event is at Yarraglen and does attract a large number of veedubs...most events are on weekends but there are club
meetings on one tuesday a month (i usually can't go cause of school)
I'm 17 and bought my bug recently...the club is very welcoming...haven't had any tech days yet...but the club members are great and will help you
out if you have a question... the muir book also helps ...if you want a scientific work shop manual I have one spare...(u2u me if you want it) that
with the muir book teaches you how to do the technical things (I haven't done any work on mine myself since I don't have the tools...but I'd also
like to learn)
