i have a kombi with a 1800 engine it has twin kadrons on it and 009 and was wondering what's the better choice on exhaust systems i currently have extractors on it but have heard standard is better on kombi engines???

only one way to find out, try a stock exhaust. extractors will be far better than the stock muffler

any other opinions??

ive got a 2ltr with extractors and a hotdog muffler and i find that it breaths a bit easyer up at higher speeds ( like 90km :P ) and that its got a little more edge over my friends stock exhaust set up.......i would compare it to my old engine but it only ever ran on like 3 cylenders so it would be unfair to compare them.

oh yeh im useing a 21 inch hotdog only because it come further out the side and looks a it better than the 18inch one i had.

I've tried both, and I agree with pyro; the extractors will give a little more top end and sound better, but I personally believe that this is not really desirable on a kombi, because a kombi needs more low-down torque, which I think is sacrificed with extractors.

This is not to say that a nice, well-designed, mandrel bent, etc set of extractors can't improve on the stock system, but the usual 'thunderbird' style extractors hardly qualify.

It should also be said that the situation would be very different on a worked engine that needs an exhaust with a higher flow capability.... but I firmly believe that a stock motor doesn't. My stock 1800 happily revs to 5000-5500 with the stock exhaust. I even hit 6500 when the throttle stuck once!!! :o

ok kool guys im gonna make it a highway cruiser get am aiming to get the revs down to about 3300 RPM doing 100 so ill stick with the extractors!!!
kol i thought i was bad revvin the kombi to 4000 rpm!!

Well, I'm only guessing, but a type 3 tacho redlines at 4500rpm, and a kombi makes peak power at 4200rpm, so I'm estimating that 4500rpm is safe. While even a stock, balanced motor like mine will rev much higher, it doesn't seem to help performance at all to rev beyond 4500rpm....

No, I was taking off from the traffic lights in first when my throttle jammed wide open. It got to 6500rpm before I could kill the ignition...
