Okay people, the time is rapidly approaching for me to replace the clutch in my L bug, as the second hand one that I put in 18 months ago is beginning
to slip more than I like to put up with. I've looked around perth, and everyone quotes around the same price, about $200 - $215 for a Luk clutch kit
(diaphragm style 200mm pressure plate, sprung conventional friction material clutch plate and new throw out bearing) + german rear main oil seal and
flywheel oring (which I will replace at the same time).
Seeing as I am running a mild 1835 with kadrons, counterweighted crank etc and I enjoy giving a bit of a flogging from time to time, is it worth my
while shelling out the $$ for a modified / heavier clutch or not ?
What are peoples experiences like with the Luk brand ?
Do I need to drop the oil out of the motor to do the rear main seal ?
I plan to pull the motor first and check to make sure its not just an oil leak back there (it doesnt feel like it though).

LUK is a good german brand... hard to beat..
I believe a standard clutch set up is OK for an 1835cc engine. I believe My Sons 1835cc engine has a standard clutch.
Usually Fischel & Sachs or LUK clutches are used in most German vehicles.. .. including tractors... etc..
Unless You are going to race etc Your car the 1835 should be OK with the standard pressure plate...
Don't forget to do the gearbox rear oil seal too... You don't want gearbox oil spoiling Your NEW clutch...

Kennedy 1700lbs or 2300lbs plates with puc Clutch's are about $400 bucks and make the car shoot off the line but make day to day driving a nightmare.
Ok we don't have that much traffic here in Perth but I would stick with the stock type on the street .

Ta for the advice guys - I think I will go with the standard Luk setup, and if it starts giving me grief I will upgrade the pressure plate / modify it
for more clamping force.

PS gearbox seal should be OK - only had it done about 18mths ago.
FWIW - using a 1700 lb kennedy clutch and a solid (not a puck type) disc I find the pedal to be no heavier than normal.
