Maybe this is where the problems start... after a car has been unregistered and then registered again.... a lot of ADRs can be applied....
I know if a Car is Unreg and then reregistered .... Depending on Year models etc..... Seat Belts may have to be fitted.... two speed wipers may have
to be fitted.... and the LATEST -- I was told a few Months ago by a Rego Tester that NEXT YEAR -- ALL Cars being registered in NSW - with a blue
slip - that means they have been out of rego.... will Have to be Fitted with Retractable seat belts....... No Exceptions! Now I hope that
doesn't happen.... as I have two sets of Belts for My beetle but None are retractable ...

You guys over east are unlucky. I'm in the process of re-registering my 73, and as far as I know, it only has to comply with the ADR's that were current in 1973.
ive been doing a lot of research re rego in NSW. as it stands at the moment if your vehicle can been proven to have been registered in NSW previously
then the ADR rules that apply are from that period. ie my '62 split was last rego'd in '75. therefor the rules that applied to it was
those dating from '75 and b4. i have no seat belts and the safaris were ok. now if you decide to import one in NSW, from os or even another
state. the adr's of today will aplly which means they could even make you remove the safari's. wouldn't htat be a bitch. ( the claim is
they are a danger to pedestrians. i would have thought that just stepping in front of a matt black bus at night would have cured that anyway)
as far as seat belts next year. i was pulled over last month for random breath test. it was real late at night and still drizzling with a light rain.
i couldn't be bothered gettin the wiper out of the duck. so i just cranked open the window. anyway this young cop was at me for all sorts
(height, belts, safari's, noise). and he was saying, with a smirk mind you , that the car would get put off the road soon anyway. now i've
checked with RTA and they cant force changes to a pre existing rego. but it is still up in the air when it comes to a previous NSW rego'd
classic. but for anyone else it will be todays rule. :puke
so what you mean is... my car has been regoed and re-regoed since '70... but came off the road last year... so does that mean if i get my blue
slip it's current rules or 1970 rules?

NEVER be phased out as long as there are Vehicles that Need it..... So they replaced it with that Junky LRP which no one is using because it is
causing so many engine problems.....
So Its being phased out.... I wonder what they will want to phase out Next ????

This post has started everyone too panic.
I register about 3 old cars a year that have been out of rego for years. As long as the car is roadworthy there is no problem! If the car is a sh#tbox
then thats different, but if its fine, its fine.
So no one panic, if your beetle or bus hasn't been registered for a few years they are not going to make you fit an airbag and intrusion
bars. to get rego.
It gets worse... I've got a 2003 68AutoBug ......
My Beetle was still registered when I stripped it and had the engine rebuilt etc. but due to unforseen Health problems..... it just sat there for 5
years [under cover] with a spray can of Fish Oil and one of underbody soundproofing being applied every now & then.... The fish oil process is
still going on... Maybe 10 layers of Fish oil will act as sound proofing..... and Now I am buying cans of Expanding Foam.... which seals-fills-
bonds-soundproofs-and insulates... Every Lexus is full of this stuff-
maybe i can show Volkswagen how the New Beetle should have really looked!
i think that they just want to eliminate old car. thus there is no problem with not having available lead petrol. me, i just switched to unleaded
about two months ago. someone somewhere said that with a VW motor and the types of materials used that it shouldnt affect it.
two months and it actually seems to be running better than on that other shit they offer us.
i think ia better idea is the authorities sudsidise the cost of an unleaded motor for all new restorations that are rego'd.
i still believe "classic is better than plastic!"

To comply with current ADR's would mean you would would have to first have to crash it into a concrete barrier and prove that you survived. Its
an absurd suggestion. When you also take into account emissions then NO car would pass!
Would also be a big turn around considering at the moment you cant (shouldnt, unless engineered) fit retractables on a car where they arent original
cos it wouldnt match the compliance plate if fitted.
BTW. I can pretty much assure you that a large percentage of the VW's that we wave to each day are unroadworthy.

ok prolly a silly question because i think i'm just reaching...
BUT, you don't need an engineers cert to fit a 1835, into a beetle....
so...
i'm putting a carbie fed EA82 into the back of my beetle... now NOTHING needs to be cut out as i can put the radiator on the back wing or two
little radiators next to the gearbox... so hence my question... do i still need to get an engineers cert if i'm putting a 1800 ea82? the speed
wouldn't be any different than the 1835 vw engine... so brake upgrades won't be needed...
what's the verdict?
P>S: i may be way off.... so please let me know, i'm a computer man by trade so i have no idea about getting it engineered...... thanks

I don't think they will ever 'get rid of old cars'
There are too many clubs getting stronger every year, permit plate schemes, history, heritage, rallies. Politicians and their families, and definitely
a lot of the voters have classic and older cars. It won't happen if we don't let it.
The more people joining clubs and organisations like the AOMC, the bigger voice we will have.

Maybe then regulations might be relaxed so cars can still be as they were made...
although swing rear axles & Positive Camber is still a bit dangerous....IMHO..
Let the powers to be dispose of Leaded petrol... It won't stop Air Cooled VWs.....

The cars in Vic don't have to pass a yearly check either. You could buy a car today and not take near a mechanic for the next 20 years if you
want.
Only checks are spot saftey checks by the coppers if they decide to pull you over.
And then is a bit rubbery as the cop can be harsh or soft depending on the day.
Canaries (un roadworthy vehicle stickers) can be put on vehicle if the washers are out of water.
Personally I think the annual check is a good thing.

I have NEVER had a vehicle knocked back . Mostly the Mechanic has a quick look, as they can tell usually if a car is in Good Condition or not.... If
the Body looks as good as new and is detailed...
There is a 90% chance the mechanicals are the same..... well I wouldn't drive a car that wasn't mechanically sound.... & I always
replace things before they fall to pieces or wear out....:tree:rudolf
