My generator belt is a bit loose.
How do I tighten it up and are there any special tools required?
Thanks
Beetle
Its basicly the same as a Beetle only a little more tricky as there isnt much space in there great if you have small finger n hands.
its a 21mm nut to be undone and remove 1 shim from the center and refit the pully.
the belt should deflect about 13mm to have the correct tension.
You need two spanners, one to turn the 21mm nut and one to hold the spacer under the nut which is shaped with with two flat sides to allow a spanner
to grab it. The main problem is that the spacer is inside the pulley and access is a pain in the ass. You will need to find a very skinny spanner or
make up a special tool to do it.
As 54 said, remove the shim from between the pulley halves to tighten the belt. The shim you remove MUST be put under the spacer, you must always
have the same total no. of shims, do not take the shim out and dispose of it.
And don't drop anything down inside the shroud!!!
Amen to that. Before starting, go to your FLAPS and buy one those magnetic extendo pick up tools in case you do drop something in the shround. Also make sure you have band aids, cos you will skin your knuckles!
Thanks for your help everyone.
Sounds like a painful exercise but I will give it a go
