what do the leavers do on the kombi dash i want to know if my heater works
and for that matter what does the button on the right side do that has what looks like to me a light on it, my lights pull out for on on the left
side, how do i know if the windshield wipper fluid works, basically what does my kombi do from the dash board?
In my '76 bay:
As far as I've worked out, the pull out switch for the lights also swivels to dim the dash lights. The button next to it is the fan for the heater.
As far as the levers for the heater are concerned, it's a bit of a mystery to me too. I have a manual, so if no one posts the answers I'll check it
out and get back to you.

thats if your heater works

the levers are as follows
the blue toped ones are cold air and will open the little vents behind the grill in the front of the bay. If the are not blue the are the ones on the
left.
the red toped ones are for hot air and when opened allow hot air to run from the motor up to the cab.
now the chances are the hot air cables are snaped or not even conected. If you get under the back of the van while a friend sits in the front and get
to the back of the engine where the heat exchangers are you will see a small lever where a cable should be conected. get your friend to mover the
hot air levers up and down (there are two the left opens the left heat exchanger and the right the right) Hopfully the small flap at the top will be
moving but the chances are its not. Now you can open it by hand and use a zippy tie to keep it open and as long as all the piping is in place you will
get hot air to the front of the van. Remember that doing this means the heater is on all the time and the only way to turn it off would be to get back
under the van and cut the zippy tie. If you do all this and the hot airs not geting to the front on some models in the middle of the cab where the
half circle goes up there is a lever that stops the hot air coming out the top. Just push it up or down(can't remember which) and that mite cuer the
problem. If there is still not hot air coing through then one of the pipes mite be missing or blocked and you will have to go through them to see
which it is.
this a very basic guide but should put you onto the right tracks. last thing to remember is untill the kombi has run for a while no hot air will come
up as the engine has to be hot so that the fan houseing can blow the hot air through...
hope this was of some help....
steff.....................
i forgot, the switch on the right of the dash is normaly for the interior light in the back and as regards the windscreen fluid it is toped up in
the mibble of the kick panel on the drivers side the when the cap is replaced you have to pump the bottle up with a bike pump. as long as it all seals
well it will keep the air presure but like a lot of old things it will more than lightly leak the air. this is now it would be as long as no one has
replaced it will electric motors or other systems.
steff..........
thanks you guys are seriously fantastic!!:beer
