G'day Guys/Girls

I have a plastic fuel filter between my fuel pump and carb on a stock 1600cc.

The fuel filter never seems to be full (always has about 1/3 full). Is this normal or should the Fuel filter be completely full. If it is meant to be full What tha??? is mine doing.

The engine runs great under throttle but pretty rough under idle (carby got rebuild last night which did improve this) but still a little rough

My fasty has a filter in the same spot, it's only ever 1/2 -3/4 full. She runs OK.

1/3 full is quite normal
filter should be between tank & pump so that it is not subject to pressure
fuel shortage causes the opposite of the symptoms you describe

Plus pressure can loosen the hoses if not careful and spray petrol over a hot engine. Move your filter out of the engine bay!!!!

Thanks guys, relocated the fuel filter out of engine bay. Completely covered in fuel during process, didn't I smell a treat.

However, the engine is still playing silly buggers, under throttle, its great, but at idle sometimes good sometimes bad, quite often will just konk out. Makes sitting at the lights great fun......

Thoughts

probably too rich, causing plugs to gradually foul up at idle, until they give up, let it idle until it stalls, or for 5 mins idling rough, & pull a few plugs,they be black if this is problem, to rich can be mixture or timing

yeah I had the same on my 1600 > ended up being a very loose dizzy (replaced with 009) and air leakage around the carby throttle > fixed with an overhaul!
