anyone got any tricks to removing window tint?

razor blade
You could try a heat gun or very hot hair dryer.
I used a blade from a retractable knife and scrapped all the tint with the blade flat to the glass (to avoid scratching it) and then I coated the glass with methelated spirits and scrapped the remainder of the glue off
depending on what it was maybe throw in another window?
ive thrown out many side windows beacuse you cant give them away?

Scraping with single edged razor blades...
You will need a packet or two... and 2 weeks for Your fingers to recuperate..

then I also use Methylated spirits to clean off the residue - using another single edged razor blade...
Then clean clean clean...
Especially if You are going to re-tint the window ...

I'd advise against a hair drier or heat gun as side windows are zone toughened glass and may explode if you heat just a spot. The razor scraper idea is the easiest, especially if you use it at a slight angle instead of pushing it straight through. And best to dull the corners of the blade slightly (by rubbing the corners on concrete or a brick) so there's less chance of scratching the glass.
A hair drier will not hurt toughened glass. A heat gun would have to be held in one spot for a long time to have any chance of explosion. The tint
would bubble & melt long before then. Just dont throw cooler water on it, let it slowly cool.
Only use a very new very sharp single sided blade in a proper holder and push away from you. Do not scrape the blade on a brick or concrete as the
irregular edge that it makes will cause scratches.
I have seen window tint guys remove old tint using heat gun & blades and they use very new ones only to make sure they have the straightest
sharpest smoothest edge.
Would you shave your face with a blunt or rough blade?
Personally I don't like shaving at all.
I was told NOT to retint the doors...
But I am going to.. well I've already done one...
I found that with the New outer scrapers have a small rubber lip at the bottom and this was grabbing ont My glass.
so I'm going to burn the edge off with a hot soldering iron...
fairly difficult and both inner & outer scrapers are installed and glued into place...

9 inch angle grinder??
Throwing them really hard at the footpath from a vehicle dooing 100kph will definitley remove the tint from the glass, or is that the glass from the tint?
The hair dryer technique works for external stickers and decals. Then use anything with a solvent base to remove the icky sticky remnants. make sure you do it in a wel ventilated space or you will end up higher than a kite.
I suggested dulling only the corners of the blade Helbus, not the actual edge. I have seen scratches caused by the imperfect corner of a blade. And as for shattering, it depends on how cold the rest of the window is...
hey
have tried the heat gun and it works well!!! doing small sections aty a time gets it off!!!
thanks heaps guys

you don't need all that much heat. just enought to make the glue melt...no scratches from blades that way
The 'ol steam kettle works very well too.
The other option is throw a brick through the glass which will cause the tint to 'separate' then just glue pieces of glass together and stick back
on car.
Any spare pieces of glass can be polished up and saved for that engagement ring! hehe
Hi
Further to removing window tint, I just removed some from some windows I have, the heat gun softened the glue really well and allowed me to remove the
film in one sheet. I bought some De-Solv-it from a hardware store, it really attacked the glue residue and made it really easy to scrape it up with
single bladed razor blade. I did 2 side windows and a back window (out of the car) in about 20 minutes.

Sandblasting works fine!
There's aguy up the road from you!
Do you need to see through the glass?
If not.safety edge razor blade with window cleaner and patience/time.
what steve said. 'de-solv-it'. citrus based cleaner, and very handy stuff. little goes a long way, just let it soak for a while and it does the work for you, but you need to get to the sticky stuff first.
ok stuck to it today with gem blades and got it off was pretty painless except the sore index finger and thumb!!!
know to go and get extremely dark tint done!
