hey
to overcome the problem of putting tyres on and off on a lowered kombi im gonna cut the wheel arch upto where the floor is and make spatz that make
the whole rear a straight line.
anyone know if these where ever made by anyone and anyone have any molds?
cheers
rhys
NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Don't do it man. Don't butcher yer bus. It will never be the same again.
Save the GT Hack saw for another day and another non VW car:thumb:bounce:beer

Is this a split? 195/15s with a 60 (or lower) profile are about the biggest you can go under stock wheel wells on a lowered bus. That's why
period hot rod wheels wheels with a max. 5.5 width (and the right offset) are easiest to use......
In the US I've seen people with lowered buses carry a little hydraulic jack - the use it to jack the wheel down when changing tyres
hey
no its not the split the 72 panel van!
ok i mightn do it
cheers

hey rhys,
man i'm like you, i'll change the car so it suits my needs exactly... the less amount of work..
but what i've learnt is straight after you do it.. you'll look back at the car and realise it's not the same.... and plus other veedub
enthusiasts frown apon it.. if you wanna know what i mean, come to the dyno day and check out my turbo bug, i guarentee someone will shed a tear and
have a bark at me for it...
anyways just thought i'd pass on what i've learnt...
if you keep it original, people will ALWAYS love it,... plus it's easier to sell when you wanna buy that pristeen 23 window that comes along one
day
happy modding.
I had some 7.5 x16 under my bay years ago with 225/50 on the back & 205/55 on the front...the bus was slammed and I could get the wheels off no problem...Its was tough with 7x15's though and that was with a 205/60!...We stuck that 205/55-16's on the back of my brothers IRS'ed 15 window the other day...much EZR to get on & off that the 205 on 15x7's he's running at the mo! The outside dia of the tyre stays the same on the 16's & 15's but the rim dia is large on the 16's...hence the ease of getting the wheel under the car without interferance...This car has not been hacked up...the rear guards are straight early splitty (flat) and the IRS is all homebrew/ baywindow bits!
hey
thankjs for your words of wisdom!!! i think it is my problem that the tyres have to much profile!!!! your running /55's , /50's im running
/75's!!!!!!! it would be easy to get them under if i have a smaller profile but then if i do go down to a lower profile on the tyres i will
revving the crap out of the motor!
its hard to win isnt it!
cheers
rhys
The 16's with 55 series front tyres (225x50-16's on the back) were pretty much the same profile....My speedo was accurate and the gearing
was fine...Sat on 120kms all day. Thats about 3300rpm I think! Thats suck went around corners very well too! By the way did I mention the 225's
would fit with a little top shock mount clearancing?
Can you say "phat"?!
hey
thanks heaps buddy low profiles are bloody expensive though
cheers
rhys
I can get 205x40/16 for 160 bucks...fitted! 225x55916 for about 150! (more common size!)
You guys living on the east coast should be able to do better than that...Larger market and all!
hey
i dont have 16 inch rims im thinkin of buying 17 inch audi rims??? that would work wouldnt it?
cheers
rhys
I'm running 16x7 rims with 225/55/16 tyres no probs at all, but then it's not lowered. $140 per tyre Bridgestone Potenza
Peter
Funny...I thought this post started with a question about SPATS?????
17" Audi rims huh?...You could make'm fit I'm sure but I think the bolt pattern is different on some year/model Audi's....I
don't know for sure, but I think only Audi 80's & 100's had the same PCD as Mercs & Late TII's...As far as getting them
under...7.5 wide is about much as you car get under...I had the 225 under a very slammed 68 Bay...Fitted a treat!
hey
lol i thought so aswell but this all helps!
so u reacon if i did go to 17's i would be able to run low profiles and get good handling keep an accurate speedo and get them under my
guards?
cheers
rhys
Absolutely.....Just measure the outside dia of the tyre you are looking to fit....And find a sidewall profile that suits...17's are way more expensive that 16's though! And I don't think you'll want to go wider that 205 on the front & 225 on the rear...That's on a 7.5" rim...Also make sure the ET (offset) is about 45 from memory!
thanks simon
know one who happen to know if the 5 spoke audi wheels off a TT will fit on a bay without mods?
cheers
rhys
Nope...Can't help you there.....You might be able to get the spec off the http://www...but I doubt it! Maybe your local AUDI dealer might help!
Good luck!
